About
Hey, I’m Rob
I’m the Practice Lead for Mobile and Hardware Security at TrustedSec, where I built the mobile and hardware security practice from the ground up and lead a team of really talented consultants. I spend most of my time working across mobile apps, hardware, web apps, and AI-related security, and occasionally build projects I find interesting or fun.
What I Do
I focus on mobile application security, hardware hacking, web application testing, and reverse engineering. I’ve been in information security for over a decade and have worked across a range of projects including:
- Presented at DEF CON, DerbyCon, and other security conferences
- Developed security solutions for ATMs and worked on banking malware investigations and forensics
- Collaborated with the U.S. Secret Service on reverse engineering efforts
- Published tools like iHide for iOS jailbreak detection bypass
Certifications
- OSCP — Offensive Security Certified Professional
How I Got Here
Back in high school, I was always messing with my TI-85, writing apps in BASIC, playing around with assembly, and spending a lot of time in QBasic. I also got really into game hacking, especially with GameShark and Action Replay, where I spent most of my free time hacking games, making cheats, and exploring the fun things you could do with those devices.
That naturally led into reverse engineering. I spent some time in software development, but I always ended up coming back to side projects involving reversing. At one point I was working as a software engineer but kept getting pulled into malware reversing and forensics work.
Eventually I moved out of that role into security full time, where that became the focus. From there, I eventually ended up at TrustedSec, where I was able to establish the mobile and hardware security practice around the type of work I enjoy most.
